Here in MA, prescription lenses have to block UV. Glass (and polycarbonate) ones do this just from the nature of the material; high index (lightweight) lenses have a coating added.
I was that dorky kid in science class with coke-bottle lenses. Bright side is I'm in my 70s and no sign of cataracts. UV damage can cause them, as can glycolic damage (high sugar causing cross linking - and so loss of flexibility and transparency). I suspect the latter is a more common cause. It might be interesting to see how this lack of vision maps to prevalence of T2DM.
