Yes, it’s there to help prevent goiter, but it’s iodide not iodine.

I’m one of the folks on the pink salt bandwagon. Not so much for what’s in it as what’s not. No plastic microparticles, for instance — and it tastes fine.

I don’t like the taste of iodized table salt. Oh, it’s fine for baking where that (IMO ‘off’) taste disappears, but why bother with it at all? We eat plenty of fish and seaweed, so goiter’s not an issue.
