What about phasing in their ‘backup’ data processing centers?

Aaages ago (mid 80s), I worked for Cullinane Database Systems. We had a ginormous data processing center across the street that was under contract to a large gasoline company (Esso?) to act as their backup processing center. Once a quarter, that company would shift all its processing to the ‘backup’, just to test that a fail-over would go smoothly if their data center ended up under water or something.

Gotta wonder if systems like that are still around and could be put to work(?)

Also, aren’t there a lot of engineers in places like India who know Cobol? They’re why the ‘Y2K disaster’ never happened — and a lot of they systems they fixed ran on Cobol.
