We had plans to go to Portugal, but that was just as the pandemic was declared.

Years ago, we did spend a couple of weeks on Terciera (an island in the Azores) visiting with friends through the festivals (feshta) season.

Amazing people. I wanted to move. My wife didn't, mostly as she didn't want to learn yet another language. Very few people other than our friends spoke English outside of "vinho - you like?": a constant offer from folks as we walked the streets.

Too much to say about feshta season in a response, but if you’re going, go then.

So, how do we have Azorean friends? They’re all over Mass. Turns out they predate the Pilgrims, but as fishermen stayed along the coast, kept on good terms with the original peoples. Still plenty of Portuguese in southern MA and Cambridge.
