Trivia: in WWI there was an AEF, the American Expeditionary Force, led by General John Pershing (dubbed 'Black Jack' as he had no issue with 'colored' troops under his command). Pershing's command had previously been in the Mexican border chasing Pancho Villa.
My personal connection is that my grandfather was part of that command. Some winters ago, my wife and I were on the pier in Monterrey talking with a woman who owned one of the stores there. She mentioned that her grandfather had 'ridden with Villa' - and I was able to respond that my grandfather had been chasing him. We had a laugh. I've since wondered what the chances of grandkids from both sides not just talking with each other, but figuring out the connection might be...?
