To be fair, I was learning what was available at the time, so not exactly this order - but that's what seems to make sense.

As a parallel, I learned photography decades before there were usable digital cameras. It made me a better photographer now, but I'd hesitate to recommend film photography to a new learner (too long a gap between taking the shot and seeing how it turned out). Hope I didn't steer you in the wrong direction.
