Trivia: that bird got its name due to multiple errors. Traders brought the African Guinea Fowl to Europe, but it came via Turkey (the one in Anatolia) so it was called a 'Turkish cock'. Then, in the Americas, the native Turkey looked a bit like the Turkish cock back home, so that's what they called it. Similarly the American robin is named for the European one (they're not related). Then Turkish cock got shortened to Turkey. Similarly the fruit of the crane berry (named for the flower shape) got shortened to cranberry.
