They've just lost all their best people.
Consider bug fixing. A day or more to track down the issue. If the fix doesn't involve refactoring (and that's generally a very bad idea due to the new QA work needed) it's often a matter of changing just a few lines, maybe just one.
Consider tech team leaders or architects. Their job is to break apart a project into modules. Best case, they'll break it down so each team member gets to work on what they're best at. Coordination means interruptions, and it's very hard to keep a chunk in your head when interrupted with the need to settle a team member's code related issue. I never mastered that, ended up staying well into the evening hours to get actual code done.
Bright side for anyone laid off: you have a perfect answer for any potential employer as to why you left your previous one.
