I know you know this, but some of your readers might not. In Russia 'reserves' just means conscripts who have already served their year and are still of fighting age (under 60?). They don't get any kind of ongoing training.

Think of that first job you had, just out of High School - remember how to do any of it? Me neither - and that's what a Russian 'reserve' is.
