There's Alzheimer's in my family. I've seen what it's like up-close. Close enough to know that checking out is a better way to go than waiting.

I'd have said 'absolutely!' to medically assisted dying, but I'd rather not put a physician through that. I've accidentally experienced anoxia (private pilot) and there's absolutely no discomfort involved. We experience 'air hunger' from high CO2, so when the time comes, if it comes, it's nitrogen asphyxiation for me. Nitrogen's easy enough to buy: it's used for tire inflation in the trucking industry (makes the inside of the tire last longer, tires typically go through multiple retreads, so making the inside last longer saves money). I've also used it on race tires for more predicable pressure rise coming up to temp.

To be clear, I have zero intention of doing anything like this now - or anytime on the current horizon. It's just there in case I need it.
