The whole point is to avoid a humanitarian disaster

The Israelis are actively blocking humanitarian aid - which puts them in violation of US aid law. Congress is pressuring Biden to stop sending arms until that's fixed. Even Chuck Shumer went on the record. If one of the military involved in this feeding operation gets hurt, that'll be a trigger.

Those Israeli politicians who track US politics almost certainly see this coming. I'd put Bibi in that group; he's just seeing how far he can push the US in order to stay in power.
