The very word alone is enough to stir fury among the boomers

Who are pretty much all either collecting Social Security or are eligible to do so — and they definitely are on Medicare. Both of which are socialist.

[edit] My bad: I was thinking Boomer meant the ten years after WWII. It goes 1945–64. Oops. [/edit]

To be fair, the Cold War was pretty scary. And the USSR had ‘socialist’ right in the name. The name was there because they had a decent shot at a real democracy with socialist features until the Bolsheviks pushed the Mensheviks out, at which point it went semi-totalitarian. So blame Lenin.

Oh, and it’s more fear than fury. If we were looking at a revolution (that might be co-opted by someone like Lenin) I’d be afraid, too.
