That mastodon link is to mastodon.social. As best as I can figure, you can only follow if you log on to your own instance, look for @tiffanycli@mastodon.social in the fediverse, find that post (given that they used to be toots, shouldn't they be poots? tosts?) and then follow.

I'm saying "as best as I can figure" as my instance is down yet again (I get a super cute graphic of a mastodon pounding on a keyboard in annoyance). I picked a small instance as 'training wheels' before I started up my own and I knew this was part of the deal.

Oh, as a newish person to Mastodon, I went hunting for journalists' accounts, found Journalists on Mastodon and Fediverse maintained by @tchambers@indieweb.social which looks to be a good clearinghouse. If you're a journalist, there's a link to a form so you can put your handle in as well. Hope that helps folks migrating.

Also, I have to wonder how Twit is determining that something that a user has listed is indeed a Mastodon handle. If it’s ‘mastodon’ in the instance name, that’s easily sidestepped as is the pattern of @username@instance.domain.

Finally, there’s definitely a possibility that Medium could get bought and changed. Does anyone up on the fediverse know of something similar there? I’m a non-author, but I think there’s need to be some kind of micropayments system to somewhat replicate what’s going on here.
