My own process is similar, although I look at p-value first (for those unfamiliar, p-value answers "how likely are these results random chance?" from 0 to 1). And for areas I'm familiar with, I'll often skim the conclusion right after that. If I read it and go "wait...what?" (something unexpected), I'll read the whole paper carefully, particularly methods and analysis.

To put how I do this into context, I also jump right to the end (plus a random page for writing style) as I'm starting a novel, deciding whether to commit the time. :-)
