Speaking as a motorcyclist, I can tell you that as-sold new motorcycles have been getting quieter for decades now. My second-ever bike was an in-pieces Matchless G-50 made in 1951 (so it was the same age as 19 year old me). Once I had it in running state, that bike was loud to everyone not on it (the exhaust system directed noise away). I used to get 'fix-it' tickets regularly (which I took care of by bringing shop manuals to the inspection station, showing it was as-imported). 1960s bikes were near-silent by comparison. I miss riding that bike. I don't miss having to fix something every 3-400 miles. Vertically split crankcase, so of course it leaked.

Speaking of loud... chainsaws. I've used a number of them, and the best so far has been from E-Go. Nearly as good as my commercial Husky ICE. Chain noise only - and my hands don't go numb from vibration.
