Sorry, Pete - it's actually good for you, particularly the diterpenes cafestol, kahweol, and 16-O-methylcafestol.

Coffee consumption is correlated with horrible stuff like fewer (and later) CVD events, fewer dementias, and (something I find surprising) better bone density.

You have to give it up if your aim in life is to get more of these — and worse bone density. :-)

Now sugar, particularly fructose, and most particularly in liquid form can indeed be bad for us. We each have a limit - step over on a regular basis and unfortunate things happen metabolically. The research has mixed results, which I take to be signs of individual variation.
