Software guy here, so my tendency is to see the recent Twitter happenings in that light - and I don't disagree with you on that front.
But here's the thing: most of what makes Twitter valuable was not work done by engineers - it was work done by users creating networks, providing information, entertainment and news - and a lot of those users are migrating away. Will that spell the end for Twit? I've no idea, but I think that might be the more important question...
Musk could have bought Myspace for a tiny fraction of $44B, or started one from scratch for that same small fraction. He didn’t do that, which suggests that that work created by users was what he was after. His challenge is to keep them and at least service Twitter’s new debt. As to how well he’s managing to do that, all I can say is “I am happy to announce that insulin is now free”.
