Setting an instance up doesn't look all that hard - even getting a Docker container up via the wonky/limited Synology interface - and I'd guess you're thinking of an easier route.

Porting your followers over might be a bit harder. Have you thought of offering them accounts? I haven't run a server, so I've no idea of what kind of admin workload might be involved - and the point of federation is that they don't need to be on your local server to follow you and so get 'toots' (pretty hokey, but so was 'tweets') in their timelines.
