Off topic: that image is a 'B' battery. If you've wondered why there are aa, aaa, c, and d batteries - but no 'b' ones, well there's one right there.
I've read (I've never seen one 'in person') that they were for the vacuum tube circuit that kept the tubes hot. I would guess that the invention of the transistor (so no more tubes in portable devices) spelled the end for 'b' batteries.
