My neighbor had a Stearman - and his own grass strip. Never thought of it as a school bus, but, yeah, that fits. At the time I was helping to restore a P-38 over by Bradley Intl. Both had a sense of history.
My first anything on a computer was via the Dartmouth time share system - also in 68. I figured out I could run on other connected systems - I just had to find out how to contact the systems admin, get a login. There was one admin at MIT that kept asking me questions that were borderline inappropriate (how do you feel about your mother?). I wasn't old enough to drive, took bus then subway, walked to the MIT AI lab to ask in person - got seriously laughed at. Turns out I'd been trying to persuade a modified version of Eliza - and I had *no* idea. As you might guess I turned into a networking guy.
Speaking of full circle, starting in the mid 80s
I was (and still am) good friends with Jonathan Lettvin (son of Jerry and Maggie), got into numerous conversations with Jerry. At the time I was writing signals processing code (and focused on Shannon) - but now I'm fascinated with Jerry's work. Also full circle.
