My dad, a WWII veteran, used to say "the big guys get hit first".

Made sense to me; not only are they bigger targets, but they stand out so they’re more likely going to have a couple of guys on the opposing side trying to hit them specifically — as opposed to just making the other guys keep their heads down.

Oh, and my dad was a big guy.
