Agreed on that. At the end of construction, I'd signed so many checks that I was unclear how much I'd spent. In the $300-350K range as best as I could tell, including an 'affordable' unit we all pitched in for. Other people who've built their own homes tell me that figuring out what you'd paid "is like that".

House prices have gone nuts. I'd been hoping that the increasing prevalence of working remotely would at least stall price increases in this area (we're already one of the most expensive areas, after SF, NYC, and Honolulu) but no such luck.

Before you ask me "why just one affordable unit?", well, we could only build so many units on the land we had, and we weren't going to kick a family out...
