Maybe restate that as "catering to your expected diners"?
Non-female person here; I'm the cook in the family. The recipes I tend to iterate are the ones my wife likes.
Oh, and I tend to use other people's recipes as general ideas, stuff like "I had no idea cinnamon might work there...". When I cook something new, I note down what I did, what might be better next time, and yeah, I pay attention to comments from any of my consumers.
