Just from looking at first, Germany's dependence on Russian gas and second, the remarkable foot-dragging around any military hardware they've built getting to Ukraine - even if they don't still own the hardware (e.g. Leopold II tanks now owned by Spain).

I'd be delighted to be proven wrong, and you might be right about the memory of East German occupation might change the calculus, but now that most of ex-Warsaw pact is now in NATO, they're not on the front line anymore, which could change attitudes.
