I've seen some work indicating that the time of day of the eating period in TRE has an effect, most notably early-TRE, where eating starts in the morning when insulin sensitivity is highest and so matching food intake to circadian rhythm has an effect - but later in the day, not so much.
Not where I saw it, but a PubMed search produces: Effects of Early vs. Late Time-Restricted Eating on Cardiometabolic Health, Inflammation, and Sleep in Overweight and Obese Women: A Study Protocol for the ChronoFast Trial.
