It’s pretty straightforward to convert a Kindle book (AZW) to something other readers can use (EPUB/MOBI). There’s an add-in for Calibre.

I’ve been using Moon+ reader on a couple of Android devices — and for the device I take out of the house, there’s CalibreCompanion that lets me take my entire library with me (no worrying about data connectivity)
