It seems to me that rowing (shell or machine) is a lot of repetitive putting your knees far over your toes (the 'reach'). It also requires a fair bit of ankle flexibility (toes towards knees). Coming from swimming (ankle flex away from knees so as to point toes) to rowing (pandemic pool closures) I definitely noticed this, had to work on that range of motion.
