As I remember, the term is "chickenhawk". I don't find them funny at all - but not as anger-inducing as how poorly our injured-in-service vets and their families are treated. A lot of our disposable income goes towards local organizations helping those folks, trying to fill in the gaps. Local as I can check in with veterans to see if they're actually being helped. If you're trying to figure this out yourself, the guys at your local VFW can point you at some local charities that are being effective. I've been leery of the national charities as there's at least one that's kind of a scam.
This is all to the side of your main point, but when we do get involved, I hope we can all do a better job of stepping up - and that starts with letters to your congresscritters.
