Interesting that it's LPS, so gram-negative (thin outer wall) bacteria. I'd agree that E. coli in the plasma via 'leaky gut' is an obvious suspect, but there are potentially other gram-negative suspects (e.g. Klebsiella, Acinetobacter, P. aeruginosa) all of which are potentially acquired in hospital settings.
