Interesting! I've seen/heard "WFO" in the aviation world (wide full open) to mean 'throttles pushed to the firewall'.
BTW/FWIW that centrifugal principle got moved to the automotive world as an automatic spark advance. We used to remove 'em from race vehicles, as it was one more thing to break, and racers tended to be either WFO or hard on the brakes (so no real need).
With electronic ignition, they've gone the way of the steam engine...
