If you have a garden, you’ll know that sometimes they get to baseball-bat size seemingly overnight. Nobody wants them. When this happens to me, I slice that zuke-bat into slices, soak in vinaigrette for a day or more, then grill. I started out using Newman’s Italian dressing, but I’ve been making my own vinaigrette for the last five or six years. Zip-lock gallon bags are about perfect if you’re heading to a friend’s house to grill. Just flip ’em over every so often so each slice gets the benefit of the vinaigrette.
