If it’s hydronic (heat carried by water) hopefully it has antifreeze, otherwise the water can do damage as it freezes and so expands. If it's steam, then any water in the furnace reservoir can freeze. My great grandfather had one of the steam ones in the basement of his house, but coal fired, not wood. I remember his house being cold before dawn. He'd be getting the furnace going again about then. Long time ago...
