I would guess that one of China's motivators to invade is the possibility of taking over TSMC facilities and production - particularly now that the US, with the "chips" act has limited mainland China's access to sophisticated processors. Much of the 'noise' has been about the limit on the 'technology' of the chips measured in nanometers (lithography gets hard as you get down to conductive traces smaller than the width of visible light, and harder as the width narrows) - but I think the real 'crimp' is in parallel processing (i.e. 'graphics' chips) CPUs and what that means for China's budding AI industry (neural networks are massively parallel).

In any case, I've read that TSMC plants are rigged to explode if an invasion happens, and even if they are not mainlanders don't have the skills...
