I used to travel a bit for work, and had family in Hawai'i, so jet lag was a part of my life. I tried melatonin to get to sleep. It didn't seem to do much, but phosphatidylserine let me go right to sleep at the 'wrong' (as in way too early) time. I've read that it depletes cortisol.

I'm not traveling between time zones much now, but will re-approach melatonin as a way to get onto my new time zone. Nice to know the mechanics of it. I'll probably use phosphatidylserine that first night, (I still have plenty) but it seems taking melatonin with it to reset my clock (superchiasmatic nucleus?) as that usually takes a couple of days (second night feels 'wrong', but no issue getting to sleep).
