...should I take my daughter out of here? Where would we go?
I, too, am concerned about the safety of people like you in states where there are right wing militias. Before you go to the extremity of leaving the country, consider what other states might be safe havens. Hawai’i comes immediately to mind, after that New England, with the exception of New Hampshire and northern Maine, then New York. If you do decide to go, maybe look at Ghana? I understand there’s a movement of people with African ancestry there, which that country is encouraging. It looks good. As someone with no African ancestry, I think I’d like it there as a retirement spot (old guy here).
A civil war would not surprise me. I would consider it (as Lincoln did the Civil War) additional ‘blood atonement’ for the national sin of slavery — as it would arise from exactly that. I am hoping it doesn’t come to that, but I am sure there will be some right wing violence after the election, particularly before inauguration, when the new administration can clamp down hard on right wing violence. I expect a defeated Trump will go full-nihilist.
That said, given the current constitution of the Supreme Court there are going to be vast differences between states with Dem legislatures and R ones. If the Senate does not go Dem, this will be more pronounced, and even if it does, the R’s will go back to their block-everything, make-this-administration-fail policy, just as they did with Obama’s admin. So look at state legislatures when you consider moving.
