I suspect the low number of claps comes from your multiple points of encouragement to 'stop reading now'. It's certainly well written - and not at all wrong.
I'd put a lot of our issues at the foot of 'engagement' - and that the more upsetting (and anger generating) 'news' is, the more engagement you get. This quest for engagement, maximizing the time readers are interacting, directly drives the amount of advertising dollars a 'news' outlet can bill for - lack of advertisers (and the content adrertising incentivises) is a major reason I mostly read Medium. :-)
