I live in an exurb of Boston. We have at least one pack in the area. We hear them singing together at night, but don't see any that often (and then, it's just one). They don't seem to be interested in the dogs (mostly off leash medium sized - Corgi and larger) but they'd love to eat our chickens. Everything does: fisher cats, weasels, hawks... and coyotes. Haven't lost one to a coyote yet, but at least one to each of the others.
We were recently visiting friends on Bainbridge Island. Multiple sightings of a solitary coyote. Probably the same one. It was significantly smaller than the ones in our area. Then I realized that it was a Western coyote, so not half wolf, which our Eastern ones are. Just as shy, though...
