I have seen no evidence of a low dose (AKA moderate drinking) has positive health consequences; there just seems to be a limit, below which it's not toxic.

About all I can come up with moderate usage health-wise is a possible reduction in cortisol, with associated reduction in insulin.

On the other side, there are studies showing moderate drinking leads to brain shrinkage. That happens as we get older, but I'd rather not hurry that process along.

I still have a glass (or even two) of wine when out with friends, but I've no illusion that it's good for me - it's just a tradeoff that I'm making. Sometimes it's totally worth it. :-)
