I come from the other direction. I've used PS for decades, starting with setting up for WEB printers (CMYK). I never took the time to figure out LR as PS did everything I needed. I mostly didn't bother with LR because they announced it at about the same time it became clear that they were going subscription-only. I upgraded PS to CS6 and that's the last dollar they saw from me.

These days, I'm mostly using DxO PhotoLab, and just jump into PS when I need to composite images or layer blend. I'm in process of moving completely away from PS, using Affinity Photo as a pixel editor (works almost exactly like PS, but costs $49 ($25 if you get it on sale) one time.

If you haven't used PL, it's worth a try (free demo). It's got, IMO the best raw converter - and now the best raw noise removal - out there. I got it just for the converter, ended up using everything else.

TLDR: Adobe used to be the only PP game in town
