Damage is certainly possible. Alcohol damages neurons through oxidative stress . I understand that the pyramidal cells in the superior frontal cortex are particularly at risk.

I got interested in neuro after I had a brain infection and the surgeon had to remove an abscess. Yeah, I'm fine, too - after relearning how to walk (big day when they took my walker away).

Very cool that our brains have the neuroplasticity to either repair or work around damage.
