From my reading, sodium batteries don't catch fire like lithium ones - and they're less sensitive to high temps to boot, which suggests that a sodium battery carrying the same energy as a lithium one would have to be heavier due to the lower energy density, but it might be able to skip the battery cooling system, saving some weight in compensation - and not needing that system could also lower vehicle cost.
