From ages 28-64 I was a swimmer focused on distance (10-15 mi/week) rather than speed. I wasn't at all bulked up, shaped more like a marine mammal. Did not care if I had any 'definition'. Had to drop that as I had a brain infection, had to relearn standing/walking - but that level of fitness was at least 50% the reason I survived.
