For those wondering how unwanted emails got named "spam", it's from a Monty Python skit in which it was impossible to get a meal without at least one or two servings of spam (the meat product) on your plate.

This was long before we all had devices with video capability, other than VHS, which this, AFAIK was not on - but it was on a record. Someone's gone to the trouble to get both tracks (hey, stereo!) into a youtube video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jrZyZn5nVks

As someone who lived through that period, I can tell you that the works of Monty Python were something of a shared culture among what were then called nerds.
