For those of us in the States, where we drive longer distances and don't have the charging network Europe does, it's worth considering a plug-in hybrid. You get to use electricity as your motive power for day-to-day local trips, and you get to travel distances without range anxiety.

There are a couple of downsides, though. You don't get the performance of a Tesla - and you have to change your oil periodically (also, if you're travelling locally only, you need to use up a tank of gas somehow every six months or so as gas degrades).
