FWIW, there's an (IMO) interesting history to the use of 'technical' to mean 'vehicle with mounted weapon'. Apparently, some humanitarian NGOs operating in Africa started calling the armed guards they'd hired (typically with 50cal MGs mounted on pickup trucks) "technical support".
Anyone have further details? It's just something that stuck with me from a while back (mid 80s) as I was donating what - to me - was quite a lot to one of those NGOs and had to puzzle out what the term meant in one of the reports I got back in return.
