And xylitol could poison your dog.

Definitely an issue — but it also poisons the cavity-causing bacteria in your mouth (same mechanism for both: messes up glucose metabolism).

I sometimes but some in black coffee. If we still had a dog, I’d probably not have any on hand — and besides I prefer local honey for that. The two flavors are complementary, particularly with dark roast — and I get a little sweetness in the process.

Speaking of which, have you tried date honey in coffee? Wondering how those flavors would combine. Piloncillo and blackstrap molasses are fine as sweeteners, but they don’t make the coffee flavor ‘pop’ like honey.
