I think I've missed something here. Up to now, I've thought 'vatnik' ватник, literally 'wadded jacket' was a derogatory way to refer to hyper-patriotic pro-military Russians, similar to 'little pink' in China.
I ran across this in a sidebar somewhere, but if I got it wrong, I’d appreciate knowing(?)
