Classic "stab in the back", not unlike post WWI Germany. Here's hoping the West has learned that lesson and will manage to pay attention post-next-collapse. Not holding my breath as democracies seem incapable of tracking more than one important thing at a time (e.g. the West got completely sidetracked into the "War on Terror" post 9/11 - to the point of turning ourselves into surveillance states - but that's a different discussion...)
