Bright side: I've read that the counterfeit EVOO problem is a lot worse in the US than anywhere else - and you're outside the US. Based on my experiences here in the states, containers marked 'made in Italy' have a much greater chance of being counterfeit than those that claim origin in other contries. I have friends and neighbors who are 2nd gen Sicillian. They tell me that counterfeit oil is absolutely *not* a problem there. I've tried some of the oil they brought back and it was very good.
I suspect the issue is lax policing of EVOO exports in Italy - and it might be *just* the oil destined for the US (millions of people who haven't a clue what EVOO is supposed to be like).
