Back in the 80s I got a chance to spend a week at the Dole visiting-exec quarters on Lanai. Lanai is in the 'rain shadow' of Mt Haleakalā on Maui so no rain.
The solution was to plant Norfolk pines along a ridge that the Westerlies blew over, and a catchment system to gather the dripping water and pipe it to... (hmmm, never saw that part, so I'm not sure if it was an open reservoir or tankage). The trees were constantly dripping.
The air was moist; it just never rained there.
For anyone wondering, this was for a dive trip. My MIL lived in Honolulu so at least once a year my wife and I would fly to HI, pick her up and the three of us would head to one of the outer islands.
